New Delhi: The Indian team reached England for the test from July 1. However, Team India fly-half KL Rahul is not in the squad as he is out with an injury. BCCI is also looking for his replacement. Meanwhile, there is news that Mayank Agarwal could return to India as a backup fly-half replacing KL Rahul. Rishabh Pant is set to become the vice-captain of this tour.

Rishabh can become vice-captain

A senior BCCI official told InsideSport that Mayank has been put on hold for the England tour. We asked the team management if they need a replacement for Rahul. We should have an answer by the 19th. In such a situation, Mayank will fly to the UK with the second batch, but it has not been finalized yet. Rishabh will be the vice-captain.

Opener Hanuma Vihari

He hasn’t been officially included in the squad yet, the reason being the number of Test matches. Since this is the only test and it is unlikely that Mayank will be chosen for the limited series of overs. The coaches believe that is unnecessary as Hanuma Vihari could be the opener in case Shubman Gill gets injured.

BCCI does not want to take any risk

However, as India suffered three injuries in the last England tour, BCCI don’t want to take any risks and want to add Mayank Agarwal as a backup option. “With some players, the team always has plans. For example Hanuma reinforces the middle order and if God forbid Shubhaman gets injured, the balance will be upset. It’s important that we have options ready when facing the adversity.

KL Rahul will leave for Germany

The first batch of many players, including Virat Kohli, has reached London. Captain Rohit Sharma has also arrived in London. KL Rahul will leave for Germany at the end of the month to complete his recovery. Mayank Agarwal was kept on standby. He is likely to leave for the UK from Bengaluru on June 20 with his second group. India will start with a first-class warm-up match against Leicestershire on June 24.
